Yashiba Blanchard was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, where prayer and service to others were the foundation of her childhood. She has been married to Elijah Blanchard for over 13 years, and loves being the matriarch of their beautiful, blended family. They have four children and a grandson. In her spare time, in addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys the companionship of her three beautiful dogs.

 

Her accomplishments include working as a public servant for the Jefferson County Commission, Personnel Board, and a college professor. She has successfully practiced law for nine years specializing in Veteran’s Disability Law, Probate Law, Domestic Relations, and Plaintiff’s Litigation. She has served as a Special Circuit Court Judge and Special District Court Judge in the Birmingham and Bessemer Cutoff Judiciary Divisions in Jefferson County.

 

As a voice for the voiceless, Yashiba prides herself on advocating for the disenfranchised as an active servant in her community, which is the foundation upon why she has chosen her career in the legal profession. Through her strong desire to help others, she has hosted educational seminars for veterans and participated in various community services efforts like food and clothing drives and tutorial programs at her home church Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, and West Marion Church of Christ. Yashiba also serves as a Trustee for Sixth Avenue Baptist Church. Currently, she hosts quarterly Veteran Disability Compensation Information Forums. Yashiba is very actively involved with the Alabama State Bar, American Bar Association, Alabama Democratic Women, and the Birmingham Bar Association. She is also a loyal member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.

 

She is a graduate of Wenonah High School and Jefferson State Community College, with an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree. She also holds a degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Political Science, and a master’s degree in Public Administration. She received her Juris Doctorate Degree from Birmingham School of Law and has been successfully defending cases at her law firm Glenn Blanchard and Associates, P.C.
